Conference “Approaching the opus of Dimitris Papaioannou: From the intimate to the universal”

The Conference, dedicated to the work of Dimitris Papaioannou, an internationally acclaimed Greek director, choreographer, visual artist, performer and stage/set, costume, lighting designer, is taking place in Athens, at the ‘Megaron’ Athens Concert Hall, from 11 to 13 January 2023.

Papaioannou is a multifaceted artist whose creations span from the Athenian underground scene of the anarchist avant-garde to international large-scale theatres, mega events and global broadcasting. His work is addressed to the small elite of connoisseurs but also to mass audiences, incorporating elements ranging from pop and folk to high and sophisticated, thus connecting the intimate with the universal. He has explored a wide range of aesthetics through which he has revealed, provoked, tested, explored, and redefined his artistic language and has therefore crystallized, in the last decade, a unique, internationally acclaimed identity.

This Conference will approach his multi-layered work as well as his multidimensional public presence from different theoretical and artistic viewpoints and perspectives.
